abstract | 1,142,181. Chlorination process. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 14 March, 1967 [16 March, 1966], No. 12022/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions B1 and C1 Radiation-initiated chemical reactions are carried out in a reactor comprising a radiation source and a plurality of reaction tubes formed from a polymeric resin transmitting radiation between 2200 Š and 6000 Š, and having specified wall thickness and diameter. Reactions specified include chlorination of 1,1- difluoroethane to 1-chloro-1,1-difluoroethane; chlorination of methane, propane and ethyl chloride to give methyl chloride, methylene chloride, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, propyl chloride, dichloroethane and trichloroethane; and conversion of hexafluoropropylene to 1,2- dichlorohexafluoropropane. |
