titleOfInvention Aryl-nitroimidazole complexes
abstract 1,141,863. Aryl-nitroimidazole complexes. MERCK & CO. Inc. 4 April, 1966 [16 April, 1965; 17 March, 1966], No. 5260/68. Divided out of 1,141,862. Heading C2C. The invention comprises an equimolar complex of a Lewis acid and a compound of the formula in which each of R 1 and R 2 is H, halogen, NO 2 , thienyl, furyl,-CNO, -CN, -CNS,-COOH, C 3-6 alkenoyl, mononuclear-aryl-substituted C 3-6 alkenoyl, C 2-6 alkanoyl, mononuclear-aryl-substituted C 2-6 alkanoyl, alkoxycarbonyl, C 2 _ 5 haloalkenyl, phenyldiazo, C 1-5 alkylsulphinyl, C 1-5 alkylsulphonyl, -CHO, C 1-5 alkoxy or C 1-5 alkyl ; a C 1-5 alkyl having one or more C 1-6 alkanoylamino, -OH, C 6 H 5 COO-, C 1-5 alkoxy, C 1-5 alkoxyalkoxy, di-(C 1-5 alkyl)-carbamoyloxy, di-(C 1-5 alkyl)-thioncarbamoyloxy or halogen substituents; a C 1-5 alkoxy radical having one or more halogen, carbamoyl, or thiocarbamoyl substituents; an amino radical having one or two C 2-6 haloalkanoyl, di-(C 1-5 alkyl) carbamoyl-(C 1 _ 5 alkyl), C 2-6 alkanoyl, or mononuclear-aryl substituted-C 1-6 alkanoyl substituents; a thio radical having one or two C 1-5 alkyl, di - (C 1-5 alkyl) - thioncarbamoyl, (C 1-5 alkyl)-thioncarbamoyl, thioncarbamoyl, or (C 1-5 alkoxy)-thiocarbonyl substituents; a sulphamoyl or carbamoyl radical, either unsubstituted, having one or more C 1-5 alkyl, mononuclear aryl, or mononuclear-aryl-substituted C 1-5 alkyl substituents, or in which the nitrogen forms part of a heterocyclic ring; or a carbamoyloxy, di-(C 1-5 alkyl)-carbamoyloxy or di- (C 1-5 alkyl)-thiocarbamoyloxy radical. The complexes are obtained by intimately contacting a Lewis acid and an aryl nitroimidazole of above formula, pref. in an aprotic solvent. Suitable Lewis acids are BF 3 , SO 3 , SnCl 4 , TiCl 4 , AlCl 3 and SbCl 5 .
