titleOfInvention Moulded nylon-6 articles
abstract 1,140,906. Nylon-6 of increased impact strength. COURTAULDS Ltd. 20 May, 1966 [21 May, 1965], No. 21562/65. Heading C3R. The impact strength of a nylon-6 article is increased by immersing it in a hot aqueous solution of an alcohol miscible in all proportions with water and having a b.p. above 100‹ C. Alcohols specified include glycerol. The solvent mixture may be heated to its boiling-point at a temperature up to 120‹ C. In examples, nylon-6 is prepared from #- caprolactam using sodium as catalyst and 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate (1) or N-acetyl caprolactam (2) as activator.
