1,139,551. Polymers of di-isocyanates. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 8 Nov., 1965 [9 Nov., 1964], No. 47208/65. Heading C3P. A polymer is claimed which has the recurring unit where R<SP>11</SP> is a tetravalent saturated aliphatic group of two carbon atoms in the polymeric chain, R<SP>1</SP> is a divalent saturated aliphatic radical, each m is 0 or 1, each a and each b are the same and are 0 or 1, R is a divalent saturated substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic group, Z is a monofunctional active hydrogen organic compound as determined by the Zerewitinoff method without the active hydrogen atom; with the proviso that (1) each and each moiety is at least two carbon atoms removed from the moiety and (2) each moiety is monovalently bonded to separate carbon atoms. In examples, the polymer was obtained by polymerizing (1) and (11) bis-(2-isocyanatoethyl) fumarate in carbon tetrachloride with benzoyl peroxide and toluene with azo-bisisobutyronitrile respectively; (3) the above fumarate and ethylene in benzene with ditert. butyl perphthalate; (4) and (5) the above fumarate and acrylonitrile or ethyl acrylate in toluene with azo-bis-isobutyronitrile; (6) the above fumarate and vinyl chloride in benzene with isopropyl percarbonate; (7) and (10) the above fumerate, ethyl acrylate and acrylonitrile, and styrene respectively in xylene with cumene hydroperoxide; (8) the above fumarate, styrene and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate in toluene with ditert.-butyl diperphthalate; and (9) the above fumarate, vinyl chloride and acetate in acetone with acetyl peroxide. |
