[Also in Division D1] A composition for treating polymer fibres comprises a copolymer containing polyoxyethylene segments and aromatic polyester, polyacrylonitrile or polyamide segments, or a dispersion or solution thereof, and an antioxidant which comprises 2-mercaptoimidazole, 2-mercaptobenzimidazole, or phenothiazine, and optionally also a hindered phenol antioxidant. The composition may suitably comprise 0À05-5 wt. per cent of the copolymer of each type of antioxidant. In examples a polyethylene terephthalate taffeta is padded with a 5% aqueous dispersion of a copolymer prepared from dimethyl terephthalate, ethylene glycol, and a polyoxyethylene glycol according to Example 11 of Specification 1,088,984 containing 0À5% by weight of the copolymer of 2-mercaptoimidazole, 2-mercapto-benzimidazole, or phenothiazine, each alone and in combination with 0À5% of 4:6-bis-(3:5-di-(-butyl-4-hydroxyphenoxy) - 2 - (n - octylthio) - sym - triazine, octadecyl - # - 1 - (3:5 - di - t - butyl - 4 - hydroxyphenyl) - propionate, 2:4 - dimethyl - 6 - α- methylcyclohexylphenol, or a condensation product of 1 mole of crotonaldehyde with 3 moles of 3-methyl-6-t-butyl-phenol, or 1 mole nonaldehyde with 2 moles of 2:4-xylenol.
