titleOfInvention Improvements in and relating to pyrotechnic devices
abstract 1,138,192. Pyrotechnic devices. PAINSWESSEX Ltd. 18 Jan., 1966 [18 Jan., 1965], No. 2138/65. Heading F3A. A rocket motor or other pyrotechnic device comprises a casing 1 made of aluminium and an end closure 2 in which is a nozzle opening 3, the closure 2 being grooved at 4 to house material 5 for igniting the charge 11 housed in the chamber 1. The material 5 may be a mixture of magnesium and potassium nitrate and a superposed layer of gunpowder pressed into the groove after coating the latter with shellac. Closure 2 has a flange 8 secured by bolts to a flange 7 of the casing 1. A length of quickmatch 10 extends from material 5 through the nozzle 3 and a layer 13 of primed cambric covers the quick-match and material 5. The charge 11, which is spaced from the wall 2 is provided with a coaxial recess 12 of star-shaped crosssection. Instead of the flanged wall 2, a tapered plug (14) with an annular groove (16) for the material 5 may be fitted in the end of casing 1. The grooving 4 may be a single annular groove as shown or a plurality of straight grooves. The charge may be of a kind which, on storage, exudes a substance which would be detrimental to igniter substance if directly in contact with it.
