abstract | 1,137,903. Polyester compositions. MIDDLESEX OIL & CHEMICALS WORKS Ltd. 18 Aug., 1966 [7 Sept., 1965], No. 38170/65. Heading C3P. A composition comprises an unsaturated polyester, an ethylenic monomer component capable of cross-linking the polyester, an amine accelerator and an inhibitor consisting of one or both of 1,4-naphthoquinone and 2-hydroxy- 1,4-naphthoquinone. Preferred polyesters are prepared from maleic acid, with or without additional isophthalic acid or terephthalic acid, and a glycol, e.g. diethylene glycol, 1,2- propylene glycol or 1,3-propylene glycol. The preferred monomer is styrene. The amine is preferably a tertiary aromatic amine, e.g. N,N-dimethyl-aniline or N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine. Other inhibitors may be present, e.g. hydroquinone, benzoquinone, anthraquinone, 2 - methylanthraquinone, 2 - methyl - 1,4- naphthoquinone, and 8 - hydroxy - 1,4 - naphthoquinone. In the examples, the compositions are cured using benzoyl peroxide. |
