titleOfInvention | Process for preparing finely divided high polymers having a crosslinked structure |
abstract | 1,137,184. Cross-linked epoxy-group containing polymers. TOKUYAMA SODA K.K. 21 Jan., 1966 [22 Jan., 1965; 31 Aug., 1965], No. 2935/66. Heading C3P. [Also in Division D1] A finely divided epoxy group-containing cross-linked polymer is prepared by polymerizing a glycidyl ester of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid in the presence of a divinyl compound as cross-linking agent and an organic solvent which dissolves the monomers but not the cross-linked polymer or the corresponding polymer containing no divinyl compound. The monomers may be glycidyl acrylate or methacrylate and together with acrylonitrile, styrene, vinyl chloride, acetate or toluene; acrylic or methacrylic acid; or a C 1-4 alkyl ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid and the divinyl compound may be divinyl benzene or sulphone. The solvent may be cyclohexane, petroleum ether, kerosene, carbon tetrachloride, n-heptane, butane or propane. The polymerization may be carried out using benzoyl peroxide. The polymers may be mixed with polypropylene, moulded into a film and dyed, or dyed and used to colour polystyrene and polyvinyl chloride. |
