titleOfInvention | Betaine sulphoalkyl heterocyclammonium salts and processes for their preparation |
abstract | 1,137,083. Betaine sulphoalkylnaphtho[1,2-d] heterocycloammonium salts and derivatives. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 28 Feb., 1966 [1 March, 1965], No. 8658/66. Heading C2C. The invention comprises compounds of the general formula wherein W represents a sulphur, oxygen, or selenium atom or the group (R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> each representing the same or different alkyl or substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl groups), Y represents a methyl, alkylthiol or arylthiol group, R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are each a hydrogen, alkyl, aralkyl, alkoxy, aryl or substituted aryl group, aryloxy, halogen, cyano, or acetyl group) and R<SP>11(-)</SP> represents a sulphoalkyl cationic group. Derivatives in which the Y group is replaced by or are also described. The compounds may be obtained by reacting a compound of formula where X represents an acid anion, with a cyclic alkane sultone. The two specified derivatives may be obtained by reacting the compounds with an orthoester or with ethyl isoformanilide. The products may be used as intermediates for preparing photographic dyes. |
