titleOfInvention Coating articles
abstract 1,136,644. Coated articles. CELANESE CORP. 15 Feb., 1966 [2 March, 1965], No. 6526/66. Heading B2K. Articles having a surface coated with a normally solid oxymethylene polymer are produced by forming on the surface a firmly adherent polyvinyl acetal film and thereafter forming an oxymethylene polymer coated on the film surface by fusion of particles of the polymer in contact with the film. The oxymethylene polymer may be a copolymer consisting predominantly of chains of oxymethylene groups containing dispersed along them groups having adjacent carbon atoms which form links in the polymer chain such as a copolymer of trioxane and ethylene oxide or dioxolane. A polyvinyl formal or butyral film may be formed on the surface of the article from a solution thereof applied by spraying or dipping. The primed article may be introduced at an elevated temperature into a fluidised bed of particles of the oxymethylene polymer, or the particles may be applied by a spraying process. The coated article may be reheated to fuse the surface particles. The article may be of aluminium, or aluminium alloy with silicon, nickel, magnesium, tin, chromium, or titanium, iron, low or high carbon steel and iron alloys containing chromium molybdenum, silica, maganese, or titanium, brass, bronze, copper, zinc, and magnesium; glass; ceramic and plastic bases such as of phenolic, urea and melamine thermosetting resins, and may take the form of a foil, sheet, tube or pipe.
