titleOfInvention Pigments and their production
abstract 1,134,735. Pigmented resin compositions. FOSCOLOR Ltd. 22 Aug., 1967 [22 Aug., 1966], No. 37541/66. Heading C4A. An organic pigment and a resin are milled in a two-roll mill of rollers 60 inches in length and 20 inches in diameter set 10-200 thou. apart under a power load of at least 80 H.P. and at a temperature such that the pigment and resin are just molten, to produce a composition containing at least 60% by weight pigment homogeneously dispersed in the resin. Optionally 1-5% by weight, based on the pigment weight, of a tallow diamine or oleate thereof may be added as milling aid. The pigment may be an azo compound or a calcium or barium salt. Resins mentioned are rosin-modified phenolic or maleic resins, zinc and calcium resinates, rosin esters, cyclized or chlorinated rubber, or ketone resins. In Examples 1 and 2 dispersions of 65% by weight benzidine yellow in zinc calcium resinate, and 70% by weight pigment red 53 (Lake Red C) in a pentaerythritol ester of wood rosin are obtained.
