titleOfInvention Modified polyolefines
abstract 1,134,121. Polymer compositions. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 5 Jan., 1967 [20 Jan., 1966], No. 2642/66. Addition to 1,134,122. Heading C3P. [Also in Division D1] Stereoregular polyolefin compositions having high affinity for acid dyes comprise a basic polyamide in quantity sufficient to provide 0À05 to 1À0 weight per cent of basic nitrogen in the mixture, said polyamide being derived from one or more dicarboxylic acids or derivatives thereof, a polyamine having three or more amine groups, not more than two of which are primary and a lactam containing 6 to 12 carbon atoms. The polyamide may be modified with a monofunctional amine or carboxylic acid. Specified polyolefins are polyethylene, polypropylene and poly-4-methylpentene-1. The polyamide may be derived from malonic, succinic, glutaric, adipic, pimelic, suberic, azelaic, sebacic and dodecanedioic acids; diethylene triamine, dipropylene triamine, N: N - di - (# - aminoethyl) methylamine, N: N-di-(#-aminoethyl) ethylamine, N: N - di - (γ - aminopropyl) ethylamine, N: N - di - (γ - amino - n - butyl) amine and bis-hexamethylene triamine; and the lactams of 9-aminononanoic acid and 11-aminoundecanoic acid, dodecanolactam, enantholactam, and caprolactam. The compositions may also contain stabilizers, e.g. organophosphites, sebacic dihydrazide, sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate and sodium dodecaphosphotungstate; and dispersing agents, e.g. long chain fatty alcohols; and may be made into filaments, films, mouldings and extrusions. In examples, polyamides prepared by heating adipic acid, bis-hexamethylene triamine and (1) #-caprolactam, (2) capryllactam and (3) dodecanolactam are added to polypropylene.
