titleOfInvention Perfluoroalkylpyridines and perfluoroalkyl chlorofluoropyridines
abstract 1,133,492. Perfluoro-alkylpyridines and perfluorochlorofluoropyridines. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 2 Feb., 1967 [23 Feb., 1966], No. 7969/66. Heading C2C. Novel perhalo-ethyl or propyl pyridines of the formulĀµ C 5 (C 2 F 5 ) 5 N, C 5 F 5-n R n N and C 5 F 5-m-n Cl m R n N, wherein R is a perfluoroethyl group and n is 1 to 4 or R is a perfluoropropyl group and n is 1 or 2, and m is 1 or 2 provided that the sum of n and m does not exceed 4, are obtained by heating pentafluoropyridine or chlorofluoropyridines having 1 or 2 chlorine atoms with tetrafluoroethylene or hexafluoropropylene in the presence of an ionic catalyst. The catalyst may be a fluoride, e.g. potassium, caesium or triethylammonium fluoride, in which case replacement of chlorine by fluorine may also occur.
