titleOfInvention Process for the continuous precipitation of inorganic products in the form of gels
abstract 1,132,831. Inorganic gels. DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT. 12 Nov., 1965 [12 Nov., 1964], No. 48166/65. Heading C1A. Inorganic gels are continuously precipitated from aqueous solutions of metal salts by acids, bases or salts continuously fed to a reaction vessel, the temperature, pH values and concentrations of the aqueous solution and the precipitation components being continuously adjusted in respective feed tubes therefor to the particular conditions required for the precipitation. The reactants may be mixed in the reaction vessel by introducing them tangentially into an inverted conical reaction vessel with a stirrer (Fig. 1, not shown), the product solution being removed from the lowest point of the cone, or by introducing them tangentially from feed tubes with radial bores into a tubular reaction vessel surrounding the feed tubes (Fig. 2, not shown). The gel may be calcium, aluminium or barium silicate, hydrated alumina, prussian blue, SiO 2 , a copper-chromium oxide catalyst or ammonium uranate. The production of SiO 2 gel is exemplified from an aqueous sodium silicate solution having a pH of 9-12 at 80-90‹ C. The reaction may be carried out in a number of reaction vessels in tandem, the residence time of the reactants in each being 2-4 minutes and the solids content of the first and second vessels may be 15-25 g./l. SiO 2 and 25-50 g./l. SiO 2 , respectively, and may be 50-85 g./l. SiO 2 before acidification with H 2 SO 4 .
