titleOfInvention | Improving the dyeability of polymers |
abstract | 1,132,645. Articles of dyeable thermoplastic polymer. TOKUYAMA SODA K.K. 9 Feb., 1966, No. 5698/66. Headings C3B, C3P and C3R. [Also in Division D1] An article is formed by shaping a composition containing a thermoplastic polymer, which is incapable of forming a chemical bond with a dyestuff, and uniformly dispersed therein spheroidal particles of less than 1Á diameter of a cross-linked polymer which is capable of forming a chemical bond with the dyestuff and which does not decompose at the m.p. of the thermoplastic polymer. The thermoplastic polymer may be a polymer of ethylene, propylene, styrene, vinyl or vinylidene chloride, acrylonitrile or polyethylene terephthalate. The cross-linked polymer may be obtained by polymerizing divinylbenzene and glycidyl acrylate or methacrylate, styrene maleic anhydride, an alkyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, vinyl isocyanate, acryloyl or methacryloyl chloride, acrylamide and/or methacrylamide. In examples the articles formed were filaments and films which were dyed and the cross-linked polymers were formed by polymerizing (1) styrene, divinylbenzene and maleic anhydride with benzoyl peroxide in kerosine, the polymer was treated with ethylene diamine and after mixing with polypropylene was stabilized with 2,6- ditert.-butyl-p-cresol; (2) glycydyl methacrylate and divinylbenzene with benzoyl peroxide in n-heptane, and the polymer was mixed with polypropylene and 2,21-methylene bis-(4-methyl- 6-tert.-butyl-phenol) as antioxidant; (3) acrylonitrile glycidyl acrylate and divinyl-benzene in kerosene and the polymer was compounded with polyethylene, the cresol of (1) above and calcium stearate; (5) styrene, glycidyl methacrylate and divinylbenzene with benzoyl peroxide in n-heptane and the polymer was mixed with calcium stearate and polyethylene terephthalate; (6) styrene, glycidyl methacrylate and divinylbenzene with polyvinyl chloride and benzoyl peroxide in n-heptane; (8) acrylamide and divinylbenzene with α,α<SP>1</SP>-azobisisobutyronitrile in isopropanol. |
