[Also in Division A5] The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R is a hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy or amino group and R 1 is a hydrogen atom or an acyl group, provided that when R is a hydroxy radical R 1 is not a hydrogen atom, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, and their preparation by (a) mono- or di-esterification or (b) reaction of an acid halide or ester with ammonia. 4-t-Butyl-salicylic acid is prepared by reaction of 4-t-butyl-phenol with sodium hydroxide and carbon dioxide in an autoclave. |
