titleOfInvention | Substituted benzimidazoles |
abstract | 1,132,529. Polyhalobenzimidazoles. ILFORD Ltd. 23 June, 1967, No. 29189/67. Heading C2C. The invention comprises compounds of the general formula wherein R 1 is H or C 1-6 alkyl, R 2 is C 1-6 alkyl, and each of Z 1 , Z 2 , Z 3 and Z 4 is Br or Cl, at least one being Br and at least one being Cl. The compounds are prepared by brominating a chloro-substituted benzimidazole or chlorinating a bromo-substituted benzimidazole, the halosubstituted benzimidazole being of the general formula wherein X is Cl or Br, and n is 1-3, to introduce 4-n Br atoms when X is Cl and 4-n Cl atoms when X is Br. Trihalobenzimidazoles may be obtained as by-products in the halogenation of dihalobenzimidazoles. |
