abstract 1,130,912. 3 - Oxo - A - nor - androstanes. E. R. SQUIBB & SONS Inc. 19 Oct., 1965 No. 44274/65. Heading C2C. The invention comprises 3-oxo-A-nor-5aandrostan- 17#-ol and its esters, 3-oxo-A-nor- 5α-androstan-17-one and 3-oxo-17α-alkyl-A-nor- 5α-androst,an- 17#-ol, and their preparation by (a) reduction of 3-oxo-A-nor-5α-androstan-2 one-17#-ol, or (b) cyclization of 2, 5-seco-3,4- bisnor-androstane-2,5,17#-triol with p-toluene sulphonyl chloride to give the 17α-H-17#-ol of the invention, followed, if desired, by oxidation to the 17-one and treatment of this with a Grignard reagent. The compounds of the invention have anti-androgenic activity.
