1,130,190. Steroid intermediates. G. D. SEARLE & CO. 30 Sept., 1965 [2 Oct., 1964], No. 29321/68. Divided out of 1,130,051. Heading C2C. Compounds of general Formula I wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> are C 1-6 alkyl, C 2-6 alkanoyl, or hydrocarbon-sulphonyl radicals, with the proviso that if either is an alkanoyl or hydrocarbon-sulphonyl radical the other can be H, or together R and R<SP>1</SP> with the adjacent N atom can form a heterocyclic ring; R<SP>11</SP> is C 1-6 alkyl; X<SP>1</SP> is carbonyl, #-hydroxymethylene, alkylenedioxymethylene (in which the alkylene part has 2-4 C atoms) or a bisalkoxymethylene radical; are prepared by reacting a compound of formula with a 2-alkylcyclopentane-1,3-dione, optionally in the presence of a condensing agent, for a period of time insufficient to effect cyclization, which process leads to compounds I in which X<SP>1</SP> is carbonyl, followed where desired by reduction and subsequent esterification of the OH group so formed or ketalization. |
