1,128,245. Sterilizing. K. G. E. ROSDAHL; C. G. D. ENGSTROM and P. HERZOG. 14 Nov., 1966 [18 Nov., 1965], No. 50932/66. Heading A5G. [Also in Division B2] Apparatus for sterilizing articles comprises an ultrasonic atomizer wherein a liquid disinfectant, e.g. aqueous ethanol or a solution of a disinfectant, is atomized by means of ultrasonic vibrations and dispersed thereby in a carrier gas to form an aerosol which is contacted with the articles to be sterilized. Optionally, the apparatus may comprise means whereby the carrier gas (which may be heated) may be passed over the articles after treatment to facilitate drying. A suitable atomizer is shown in Fig. 3, wherein liquid disinfectant from the reservoir bottle 80 is introduced at a controlled rate on to the ultra sonic vibrator plate 73 in the chamber 68 whilst a carrier gas, e.g. air or nitrogen, is passed into the chamber via conduit 69 and the aerosol leaves via conduit 70. The carrier gas may be supplied by a high pressure source or a blower and the apparatus may incorporate a heater which allows heated gas to be passed through the apparatus when the liquid supply is turned off, to dry the disinfected articles. |
