1,126,953. Bactericidal compositions. JOHNSON & JOHNSON. 14 Feb., 1966 [17 Feb., 1965], No. 6379/66. Heading A5B. [Also in Division C4] A bactericidal composition comprises at least one water-soluble cationic quaternary ammonium surface active compound, an organic acid capable of forming a water-soluble derivative or derivates with the quaternary ammonium compound or compounds, and a water-soluble, nonionic surface active agent in a carrier comprising an aqueous solution containing at least 30% by wt. of ethanol or isopropanol. The cationic quaternary ammonium compound may be benzalkonium chloride, cetyl pyridinium chloride, cetyl pyridinium acetate, dequalinium acetate, dequalinium chloride, an alkyl isoquinolinium quaternary ammonium halide or an alkyl pyrimidinium quaternary ammonium chloride. The organic acid may be citric, malic, lactic, glycolic, tartaric, benzoic or succinic acid. The non-ionic surface active agent may be a polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid ester, a sorbitan fatty acid ester, a glycerol fatty acid ester, a polyoxyalkylene fatty acid ether or ester, or a polyethylene glycol. The composition may be formulated as an aerosol. |
