titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of polyvinyl ethers
abstract Polymers of vinyl ethers are made by effecting the polymerization of one or more ethers in the presence of a catalyst comprising an organo-aluminium compound, an organic acid anhydride, and a Friedel-Crafts halide. The catalyst may be performed and "aged." The expression vinyl ether includes alkoxy butadienes. The Specification contains extensive lists of suitable catalyst components, and monomers. Exemplified organo-aluminium compounds are triethyl, triisobutyl, tri-n-hexyl aluminium, diethyl aluminium chloride and ethylaluminium chloride. The acid anhydrides exemplified are acetic, maleic, phthalic and succinic anhydrides. Exemplified Friedel-Crafts halides are TiCl4, FeCl3, VoCl3, TiBr4, and molybdenum chloride. Homo- and copolymers of vinyl ethers are exemplified including copolymers of isobutylvinyl ether and 1-alkoxy-1,3-butadiene, i.e. the methoxy and butoxy compounds.
