titleOfInvention Polymeric coating compositions
abstract A composition, suitable for the formation of a resinous product having substantially tack-free characteristics at elevated temperature, comprises chlorosulphonated polyethylene and a butyrated cellulose in the ratio of 90:10 to 30:70 parts by weight respectively. The composition may also contain 0.01 to 0.05 equivalents of an organic amine per 100 parts by weight of the chlorosulphonated polyethylene based on an equivalent weight of amine containing one amine nitrogen. The composition may further contain 20 to 40 parts by weight of litharge and 1 to 4 parts by weight of tetraethyl thiuram disulphide per 100 parts by weight of the chlorosulphonated polyethylene. The preferred chlorosulphonated polyethylenes are those containing 0.8 to 1.6% sulphur and 25 to 45% chlorine. The preferred butyrated cellulose polymers contain up to 3% by weight free hydroxyl content, 6% to 57% by weight of butyryl content and 0 to 37% by weight of acetyl content. In the examples coating compositions comprising (1) methyl isobutyl ketone, xylene, 2-ethoxyethanol and diethylene triamine; (2) lampblack, graphite, solvent dispersion of an organic hydrocarbon, partially hydrogenated wood rosin, 2-ethoxyethanol, commercial surfactant, dimethyl siloxane, xylene, methyl isobutyl ketone and wax coated silicon dioxide; (3) titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate, partially hydrogenated wood rosin, solvent dispersion as in (2), commercial surfactant, xylene, 2-ethoxyethanol, silicone oil, and methyl isobutyl ketone; (4) titanium dioxide, yellow oxide, burnt umber, molybdate orange, partially hydrogenate wood rosin, xylol, 2-ethoxyethanol, silicone fluid and methyl isobutyl ketone are prepared.ALSO:Substrates are coated or impregnated with a resinous product having substantially tack-free characteristics at elevated temperatures comprising chemically reacted chloro sulphonated polyethylene and a butyrated cellulose in the ratio of from 90:10 to 30:70 parts by weight, respectively. Suitable substrates are wood, metal, plaster board, cellulosic fibre board, paper, resin, elastomer, fabric, concrete or masonry, paper overlay bonded to wood, fibre board or plaster board, wood siding or metal siding.
