titleOfInvention Hydroxy (difluoramino) derivatives of ketones and their preparation
abstract Hydroxy (difluoramino) derivatives of aliphatic ketones are prepared by reacting a ketone, other than acetone, with difluoramine. The ketone may be an acyclic monoketone RR1CO where R is methyl or ethyl and R1 is an alkyl group of not more than four carbon atoms, e.g. methyl ethyl ketone, or may be cyclohexanone, cyclopentanone, cyclohexane-1,4-dione, biacetyl, or acetyl acetone. In examples, condensed difluoramine is refluxed with the ketone or a solution or suspension of the ketone, e.g. in ether or water. Compounds prepared are 1-hydroxy-1-difluoramino-cyclopentane, 1-hydroxy-1-difluoramino-cyclohexane 1,4 - dihydroxy - 1,4 - bis(difluoramino) cyclohexane 2-hydroxy-2-fluoramino-butane, 2,4-dihydroxy-2,4 bis(difluoramino) pentane, and 2,3-dihydroxy-2,3-bis(difluoramino) butane. The compounds are useful as propellent explosive ingredients.
