titleOfInvention | Process for the production of cyclooctatriene-(1,3,5) |
abstract | Cyclooctatriene-1,3,5 is obtained by partial hydrogenation of octadiene-1,7-diyne-3,5 in the presence of a catalyst. The reaction is effected at 0-60 DEG C. and up to 10 atmospheres gauge. The catalyst is platinum or palladium or calcium carbonate, alumina or barium sulphate and inactivated with lead, its activity being further modified by adding to the reaction a tertiary base, e.g. pyridine, quinoline or isoquinoline. Reaction is carried out in a solvent, e.g. hydrocarbons, esters and alcohols. Cis-trans-octatetraene-1,3,5,7, a new compound is obtained as by-product, being separated by chromatography. |
