titleOfInvention | Process for the manufacture of sheets of polyvinyl chloride which are permeable to air and impermeable to water, and products thus obtained |
abstract | Air-permeable, water-impermeable polyvinyl chloride sheets are prepared by introduction of water into a plastisol of polyvinyl chloride and subsequent evaporation of the water during gelling, the water being first emulsified in a plasticizer of the plastisol and then dispersed in the plastisol, which is then spread out in a thin layer and gelled by heating, preferably at a temperature above the vaporization point of water. The preferred proportion of water in the final mixture is between 10 and 12% by weight. Before the emulsion is formed various additives may be added, e.g. emulsions of plasticized or non-plasticized vinyl acetate, methyl methacrylate, styrene, butadienes, polyethylene or silicones. The plastisol can also contain inert charges, colouring agents, thickeners and fluidizers. |
