titleOfInvention Ammoxidation process and catalyst
abstract 4-Cyanothiazole is made by contacting a vapour feed mixture of 4-methyl thiazole, oxygen and ammonia with an Al2O3-supported catalyst at a temperature of 380-460 DEG C., the catalyst having a surface area less than 25m2/gm. and comprising 1-15% CoO, 1-10% MoO3, 1-10% V2O5, with the remainder being essentially the Al2O3 support material, the residence time for the vapour mixture and the catalyst being from 0.05 to 0.8 sec., the amount of oxygen provided in the vapour feed mixture being at least 20 moles per mole of 4-methyl thiazole, and the amount of ammonia provided in the vapour feed mixture being at least 1 mole per mole of 4-methyl thiazole. Comparative examples in which catalyst composition and feed vapour ratios are varied are described.
