n-Butane is continuously oxidized in the gaseous phase with oxygen at a temperature above 152 DEG C. and at a pressure between 50 and 100 atmospheres gauge to give oxygen-containing compounds, the liquid products collecting in the reaction zone in the form of a bottom layer containing water. Specified organic products are acetic acid, formic acid, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, acetaldehyde, methanol, ethanol, butanol, methyl acetate, ethyl acetate and butyl acetate. |
