titleOfInvention Process for the suspension polymerisation of vinyl chloride
abstract Vinyl chloride is polymerized or copolymerized in aqueous suspension in the presence of a suspending agent and a homopolymer of vinyl acetate. The polyvinylacetate is added as solid, emulsion or solution in an amount of 0.01-3% by wt. of monomers. The suspending agent may be a colloid, polymer, surface active agent or inorganic suspending agent; in the examples polyvinyl alcohol, vinyl acetatemaleic anhydride copolymer and methylcellulose are used. A peroxide or azo catalyst is employed, in the examples are used azobisisobutyronitrile, diisopropyl peroxydicarbonate and tert. butyl peroxypivalate. In one example the vinyl chloride is copolymerized with vinylidene chloride.
