abstract | The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:1112826/C2/1> wherein X is -CH = CHOCOR(I), CO2H(II), CO2R(III) or CHO(IV), and R is C1- 4 alkyl. The compound where X is CH2CHO is reacted with Ac2O/NaOAc to give (I) (R = Me) which may be ozonized; the ozonide gives (II) by oxidative decomposition, and (IV) by reductive decomposition. (II), which is also obtained by oxidation of (IV), may be esterified, e.g. with CH2N2 or Me2So4, to give (III) (R = Me). |
