abstract | Dyestuff solutions for use in colouring liquid hydrocarbons comprise one or more oil-soluble dyestuffs in a homogeneous mixture of a liquid phenol and a hydrocarbon containing at least 30% by weight hydrocarbon, such that the solubility of the dyestuff(s) in the solvent is greater than its solubility in the hydrocarbon alone and is nearer to its solubility in the phenol alone than it is to its solubility in the hydrocarbon alone. The liquid phenol may be crude phenol or a mixture of m- and p-isopropylphenol, and the hydrocarbon a petroleum aromatic hydrocarbon, xylene, cyclohexane or n-heptane. Specified dyestuffs are identified by their Colour Index Numbers. |
