abstract | Anthraquinone dyestuffs having the general formula <FORM:1107639/C4-C5/1> wherein R is an unsubstituted or substituted aryl or cycloalkyl radical and their salts are prepared by reacting the corresponding 4-bromoanthraquinone with an aromatic or cycloaliphtic amine, preferably in an aqueous medium and in presence of copper or a copper salt as catalyst. The aromatic amines used are preferably of the benzene or naphthalene series and may contain one or more further substituents. The dyestuffs prepared may be subsequently (a) halogenated, (b) acylated when diamines are used and (c) further sulphonated, converted into a sulphochloride and then reacted with an aliphatic amine to form sulphonamide groups. The free acids may be converted to alkali metal, ammonia and amine salts. The dyes give green and blue shades on wool, silk and polyamides. |
