titleOfInvention | New organic sulphated surfactants |
abstract | A detergent composition useful as a shampoo contains as essential ingredient at least one salt of the formula R-CO-NH-(CH2CH2O)2SO3X wherein R is an alkyl or alkenyl radical containing 8-20 carbon atoms and X is an alkali or alkaline earth metal, ammonium, alkyl ammonium or alkylolamine. Other specified ingredients are lauric diethanolamide, polyoxyethylene lauric alcohol having 12 ethyleneoxy groups and ammonium lauryl sulphate.ALSO:Novel compounds of the formula RCONH(CH2CH2O)2SO3H wherein R is an alkyl or alkenyl radical of 8-20 carbon atoms and their alkali and alkaline earth metal, ammonium and C1-C4 alkyl-ammonium and alkylolamine salts are prepared by reacting a fatty acid (RCOOH), preferably derived from copra, with diglycolamine, sulphating the resulting hydroxy amide and, if desired, salinifying the product. The sulphation may be carried out using sulphamic acid which gives the ammonium salt directly, sulphuric acid or chlorosulphonic acid. The sulphated product obtained by using chlorosulphonic acid may be neutralized with soda, ammonia or alkylolamines such as ethanolamine or isopropanolamine. The amide intermediate is prepared by condensing RCOOH with diglycolamine at 160-200 DEG C., aminolysis of an ester of a fatty acid or converting an acid chloride to the amide by known means. The salts of the products are used in cosmetic compositions, especially in hair shampoos. |
