titleOfInvention | Process for polymerization of ethylene |
abstract | Ethylene is polymerized in the presence of a three component catalyst system consisting of (1) a tin hydride compound containing in its molecule at least one Sn-H linkage, (2) a compound of a transition metal of Group IV(a), V(a) or VI(a) of the Mendeleef Periodic Table, and (3) an organotin compound containing in its molecule at least one Sn-O-R linkage wherein R represents a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic nucleus, and in molar ratios compound (3) to compound (2) is at least 0.01:1. Exemplified catalyst systems are (1) tributyl tin hydride, TiCl4, and tri-n-butyltin phenoxide, (2) as (1) but triethyl-tin-p-methyl-phenol was used instead of the phenoxide, (3) vanadyl trichloride, tributyltin phenoxide, and tributyltin hydride, and (4) as (3) but the vanadyl trichloride was replaced by chromium trichloride. The polyethylene was recovered by conventional techniques. |
