titleOfInvention | Lubricants or sliding agents |
abstract | The invention comprises compositions containing low molecular weight alkylphenoloxethylates (i.e. reaction product of an alkyl phenol and up to 6 molecules of ethylene oxide) and polyalkylene oxides suitable for use as lubricants particularly in the textile industry. The alkyl groups may contain 8 to 18 carbon atoms. The polyalkylene oxide may be polyethylene oxide, polypropylene oxide, a mixture of these, or an addition product of propylene oxide and polyethylene oxide and has an average molecular weight of 200-600. The ratio of alkylphenoloxethylate to polyalkylene oxide is 3:1 to 1:3 and the composition may be diluted with water in a ratio 1:1 to 1:20. The composition may also contain a condensation product of a fatty acid and an aminocarboxylic acid or aminosulphonic acid or a water soluble salt e.g. alkali metal or amine of the condensation product or a mixture thereof, in amount between 1:1.5 and 1:10 based on the alkylphenoloxethylate. Examples describe compositions prepared by (1) mixing the addition product of 3.5 to 4 mols ethylene oxide and 1 mol. tributyl phenol with 45 parts by weight of a polyethylene oxide (200-300 M.W.) and adding 10-12 parts by weight of the sodium salt of the reaction product of methylaminoacetic acid and stearic acid chloride, and (2) mixing 20 parts oleylsarcosine-triethanolamine salt with 35 parts of the addition product of 4.3 mols. ethylene oxide and 1 mol. of nonylphenol and adding 40 parts of a polyalkylene oxide of M.W. 400-450 (ethylene oxide plus 40% propylene oxide). Fibrous material is "revived" by treatment with 0.1 to 8% by weight of the lubricant composition.ALSO:The invention comprises compositions containing low molecular weight alkylphenoloxethylates (i.e. reaction product of an alkyl phenol and up to 6 molecules of ethylene oxide) and polyalkylene oxides suitable for use as lubricants, particularly in the textile industry.
