titleOfInvention New copolymers and cosmetics applications thereof
abstract The invention comprises copolymers of (a) vinyl acetate, (b) crotonic acid and (c) at least one acrylic or methacrylic ester of the formula <FORM:1103284/C3/1> where R represents hydrogen or methyl and R1 is methyl, butyl, ethylhexyl, butoxyethyl or lauryl or alkyl vinyl ether of formula <FORM:1103284/C3/2> where R11 is ethyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl or chloroethyl, and salts of these copolymers. The copolymers preferably contain 75 to 85% by weight of vinyl acetate, 5 to 15% by weight of crotonic acid and 5 to 15% by weight of component (c). Suitable salts include those with ammonia, monoethanolamine, monoethylamine, dimethylamine, diethylamine, aminoethylamine, ethanolamine, monoisopropanolamine, 2 - amino - 2 - methyl - propanol - 1, or 2 - amino - 2 - methyl - propanediol - 1,3. Solutions of the salts, preferably in the form of aerosol lacquers, may be used as cosmetics. The aerosol lacquer may contain alcohol and a propellant gas preferably a halogenated hydrocarbon.ALSO:Aerosol compositions comprise solutions of salts of copolymers of (a) vinyl acetate; (b) crotonic acid; and (c) at least one acrylic or methacrylic ester of the formula <FORM:1103284/C4-C5/1> where R is hydrogen or methyl and R1 is methyl, butyl, ethylhexyl, butoxyethyl or lauryl or alkyl vinyl ether of the formula CH2 = CH-O-R11, where R11 is ethyl, isopropyl butyl, isobutyl or chloroethyl. The aerosol lacquers are used as cosmetic products and also contain alcohols and propellant gas. Preferred alcohols are anhydrous ethanol or isopropanol and preferred propellant gases are halogenated hydrocarbons. In examples fluorinated hydrocarbons, butyl phthalate, ethyl alcohol, isopropyl palmitate, triethylene glycol, water and isopropyl myristate are used.ALSO:Hair lacquers and lotions comprise solutions of salts of copolymers of (a) vinyl acetate, (b) crotonic acid and (c) at least one acrylic or methacrylic ester of the formula <FORM:1103284/A5-A6/1> where R is hydrogen or methyl and R1 is methyl, butyl, ethylhexyl, butoxyethyl or lauryl or alkyl vinyl ether of the formula CH2=CH-O-R11 where R11 is ethyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl or chloroethyl. The products are preferably in the form of aerosol lacquers which preferably include alcohols and propellant gases. Preferred alcohols are anhydrous ethanol or isopropanol and preferred propellant gases are halogenated hydrocarbons. In Examples fluorinated hydrocarbons, butyl pthalate, ethyl alcohol, isopropyl palmitate, triethylene glycol, water and isopropyl myristate are used. Conventional cosmetics additives, e.g. plastisizers, perfumes and dyestuffs may also be incorporated.
