titleOfInvention | Improvements in and relating to quinazolines |
abstract | Novel compounds of the tautomeric formulae <FORM:1103155/C2/1> and <FORM:1103155/C2/2> wherein each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, aryl, nitro or hydroxy group and R is a saturated or unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or heterocyclic radical or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl radical, are prepared by reacting an o-aminophenylhydroxamic acid of the formula <FORM:1103155/C2/3> with an aldehyde of the formula RCHO or an acylate thereof. The novel compounds may be dehydrated, e.g. by azeotropic distillation or by means of dehydrating agents, into 4-ketoquinazolines of the formula <FORM:1103155/C2/4> Pharmaceutical compositions having bacteriostatic activity, for oral or parenteral administration, comprise one of the above novel compounds together with a carrier. |
