titleOfInvention | Production of a fluorinating agent |
abstract | A spheroidal fluorinating agent containing CaF2 is made by spray-drying a suspension of CaF2 in an aqueous solution of CaCl2. The spray-drying can be effected at 100-500 DEG C. The proportion of CaCl2 can be 1-20% wt. of the CaF2. The suspension may contain 30-80% wt. CaF2. The CaCl2 solution can be made by reacting HCl and Ca compounds, e.g. CaO, Ca(OH)2 or CaCO3, which may be present in a mineral also containing the CaF2, e.g. fluorite or fluorspar. The CaF2-containing fluorinating agent may be regenerated by this process after washing to remove part of the CaCl2 covering it. The spheroids may be hollow and have a particle size of 35-400 Tyler mesh and be used for fluorination of CCl4.ALSO:A spheroidal fluorinating agent containing CaF2, which is used to fluorinate CCl4, is made by spray-drying a suspension of CaF2 in an aqueous solution of CaCl2. The fluorinating agent can be used in a fluidized bed reactor and can be regenerated by the spray-drying process. The spheroids may be hollow and have a particle size of 35-400 Tyler mesh. In the examples, CCl4 with and without Cl2 is passed through a fluidized bed of the spheroids to produce gas mixtures containing CO, CF3Cl, CF2Cl2, CFCl3, CHCl3 and CCl4. |
