titleOfInvention Production of crosslinked polymers
abstract A composition suitable for decorating textiles comprises (1) a colouring agent, e.g. a pigment, (2) an extender and (3) a heat curable resinous composition. The latter consists of an emulsion interpolymer of 25-30% by wt. styrene, 45-75% by wt. of an alkyl acrylate containing 7 to 15 carbon atoms and 0.5 to 10% by wt. of at least one reactive acrylic (e.g. containing carboxyl, hydroxyl, epoxy or amide groups) together with a curing agent; this is present at 0.5 to 30% by wt. of the interpolymer and consists of a mixture of a polycycloaliphatic polyepoxide each cycloaliphatic ring of which contains 5 or 6 carbon atoms and at least one epoxide group and from 10 to 90% by wt. of the mixture of a hexa-alkoxymethylmelamine in which the alkyl group contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms (e.g. hexamethoxymethylmelamine). The composition may be cured by heating (e.g. at 180 DEG to 220 DEG F. for up to 3 minutes). The interpolymers may be prepared by polymerizing styrene with at least one appropriate alkyl acrylate and at least one monomer selected from methacrylamide, N-methylolacrylamide, 2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate, glycidyl methacrylate, methacrylic acid and hydroxyethyl acrylate in aqueous emulsion employing sodium lauryl sulphate and nonylphenoxypolyethyleneoxy ethanol emulsifiers and ammonium persulphate catalyst. The pH of the reaction product is adjusted to 8.5-9.0 with aqueous ammonium hydroxide.ALSO:A composition suitable for decorating textiles comprises (1) a colouring agent, e.g. a pigment (2) an extender and (3) a heat curable resinous composition. The composition may be cured by heating (e.g. at 180 to 220 DEG F for up to 3 minutes). In examples printing pastes containing phthalocyanine blue and green and azo red are printed on cotton, polyester, nylon and rayon fabrics.
