titleOfInvention 3-hydroxy-6-oxo-n-phenethylmorphinan compounds and their production
abstract Novel 3 - hydroxy - 6 - oxo - N - phenethyl-7 - dehydromorphinan(cis) and 3 - hydroxy - 6-oxo - N - phenethylmorphinan(cis) and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by subjecting the corresponding 3-methoxy-6-oxo-N-phenethylmorphinan(cis) compounds to hydrolytic fission, followed by optional conversion to an acid addition salt. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising as active ingredient 3-hydroxy-6-oxo-N-phenethyl-7 dehydromorphinan(cis), 3-hydroxy-6-oxo-N-phenethylmorphinan(cis) or acid addition salts thereof in combination with a pharmaceutical carrier are useful as analgesic agents. 3 - Methoxy - 6 - oxo - N - phenethyl - 7 - dehydromorphinan(cis) and 3 - methoxy - 6 - oxo-N-phenethylmorphinan(cis) are prepared by reacting the corresponding N-methyl compounds with cyanogen bromide, treating the resulting N-cyano compounds with hydrochloric acid and reacting the resulting N-unsubstituted compounds with phenethyl bromide.
