titleOfInvention | Novel 17-acylating process and products thereof |
abstract | A novel steroid of the pregnane series which contains an acyloxy group in 17a -position, an acyloxy or carbalkoxy group at the 21-position and a trihaloacetoxy group at the 11b -position, the 21-carbalkoxy group having up to 9 carbon atoms in the alkoxy moiety is obtained by the direct acylation of a 17a -hydroxy group in a steroid of the pregnane series by treating a 17a -hydroxy steroid of the pregnane series with an acylating medium comprising a trihaloacetic anhydride a strong acid catalyst and a carboxylic acid. As carboxylic acids there may be used acetic, propionic, butyric, valeric, 2-methylvaleric, caproic, octanoic, cyclopropylcarboxylic and benzoic acids. |
