Novel guanidine derivatives of formula <FORM:1096348/C2/1> and acid addition salts thereof, wherein A is C2 or C3 alkylene and R1 and R2 are H, halogen, methyl, ethyl, methoxy or ethoxy, are prepared either by reaction of a compound of formula <FORM:1096348/C2/2> with cyanamide or an S-alkylisothiourea or its salt, or by reduction of a compound of formula <FORM:1096348/C2/3> wherein A1 is alkylylidene or alkenylylidene corresponding to A. Compounds of the last formula above are prepared by reaction of a salt of amino-guanidine and an aldehyde of formula <FORM:1096348/C2/4> o-Tolylpropionaldehyde is prepared by oxidation of the corresponding alcohol. Pharmaceutical compositions in tablet form comprise an above novel guanidine or a salt thereof and a carrier. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,064,176. |
