abstract The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:1095853/C2/1> where R is an optional substituent, and M is the ion of an alkali (n = 1) or alkaline earth (n = 2) metal. These compounds are prepared by reacting the corresponding tropone containing, as 2-substituent, halogen, C1- 5 alkoxy or tosyloxy, with cyanamide or an (O- or S-) C1- 5 alkyl isourea or isothiourea, or an alkali or alkaline earth metal salt or an acid addition salt thereof; where the metal salt is not used, the reaction is effected in presence of an alkaline substance providing M.
