| abstract | Novel des-A-steroids having the formulae <FORM:1094808/C2/1> <FORM:1094808/C2/2> <FORM:1094808/C2/3> <FORM:1094808/C2/4> wherein R and R1 are each an alkyl radical containing 1-4 carbon atoms, "Acyl" represents an acyl group and R2 and R3 are each an alkyl group or, together with the nitrogen atom, form a heterocyclic ring system, are obtained by subjecting a 5-methoxy-13b ,17a -alkyl-20-hydroxy - des - A - 18,19 - dinor - pregna-5,7,9-triene to a Birch reduction and to treatment with a weak organic acid or dilute mineral acid so as to form the desired 13b ,17a -dialkyl-20-hydroxy - des - A - 18,19 - dinor - pregn - 8 - en-5-one, reacting the latter with a concentrated mineral acid so as to form the corresponding 13b ,17a - dialkyl - 20 - hydroxy - des - A - 18,19-dinor-pregn -9-en-5-one, acylating the latter so as to form the corresponding 13b ,17a -dialkyl-20 - acyloxy - des - A - 18,19 - dinor - pregn-9-en-5-one and reacting the latter with a secondary amine R2R3NH (wherein R2 and R3 are each an alkyl group or together with the nitrogen atom, form a heterocyclic ring system) so as to form the desired 5-enamino-13b ,17a -dialkyl-20-acyloxy - des - A - 18,19 - nor - pregn - 5(10), 9(11)-diene. |
