titleOfInvention High density polyurethane foams
abstract A composition for the preparation of a polyurethane foam of the type formed by reaction of (A) an organic polyisocyanate and (B) a poly-hydroxy compound, comprises one of the reactants (A) and (B) and a phosphorus compound of the formula <FORM:1094717/C3/1> wherein Y is O or S, and each R and R1 may independently be aryl, alkyl, aralkyl or alkaryl (any of which may be substituted by groups not reactive in the urethane-forming reaction, e.g. halogen) and R1 may be alkenyl. A composition as claimed in Specification 1,056,360 is specifically disclaimed. Specified phosphorus compounds include diamyl amyl-, dimethyl methyl-, and bis(chloropropyl) chloropropyl-phosphonates. Long lists of suitable poly-hydroxy and polyisocyanate compounds are given. A foaming agent, usually of the "chemical" type may be added, together with other optional ingredients, such as a catalyst, e.g. a tert-amine, fire-retarders, fillers, dyestuffs, mechanical strength improvers and cell-size controllers. The final products have high density and fire resistance.
