titleOfInvention Polyamides
abstract Linear fibre-forming polyamides comprise at least 90 weight per cent repeating units <FORM:1091007/C3/1> where R1, R2, R3 and R4 are H or CH3 and wherein at least 40% of the diamine units are the t,t-stereoisomer. Numerous diamines and diacids or aminoacids which may be copolymerized into the polyamide are specified. They are preferably used in amounts less than 5% unless one of the radicals so introduced is the same as one of those in the essential repeating unit. In the examples, comparisons are made with polyamides containing homologues of the specified units. Additives such as heat, light and U.V. stabilizers, delusterants, pigments and dyes may be incorporated in the polyamides. In examples, TiO2 and manganese hypophosphite are included.ALSO:Polyamide yarns stated to have good "wash and wear" performance and the hand of natural silk are melt spun from polyamides comprising at least 90 wt.% of repeating units. <FORM:1091007/D1-D2/1> where R1, R2, R3 and R4 are H or CH3 and wherein at least 40% of the diamine units are the t-t stereoisomer. (see Division C3). The desirable yarn structure is said to be a function of the t-t content and to be enhanced by annealing, optionally in conjunction with other specified treatments. The polyamides may be used as a component in mixed filament (co-spun) yarn or as a component in combined filaments spun in side-by-side or sheath core arrangement.
