titleOfInvention | Spin-dyed polyamide filaments |
abstract | Polyamides are pigmented before melt-spinning by adding a pigment suspended in butyrolactam. Pigments specified include inorganic pigments, e.g. cadmium yellow and brown iron oxide and organic pigments. 60-70% of it may be dispersed in the lactam at room temperature using a ball mill, roller mill or sand mill. The suspension may also contain 0.1-0.2% of dinaphthyl methane ulphorate and 1-2% of water. It may be passed through a screen before incorporation in the polyamide by addition to the monomers or to the partly or completely finished polymer. The polyamide may be derived from an aminocarboxylic acid or lactam, e.g. caprolactam, or from a dicarboxylic acid and diamine. Sufficient dispersion may be added to introduce 0.01-5% pigment. The pigmented polymer may be shredded or granulated and leached with water before spinning. |
