abstract | A ceramic comprises a fired and partially fused mixture of igneous rock and clay wherein the weight ratio of rock to clay, before firing, is 1-9 to 1. Up to 30% of zircon, iron oxide, or a neutron absorber, e.g. compounds of lead, boron or cadmium, can be included. Glass, lead silicate or felspar can be added as fluxes. Deflocculants, e.g. E.D.T.A., sodium oxalate or polyphosphate, and ammonia can be added to the slips formed before firing. |
