abstract Novel compounds of formula <FORM:1086192/C2/1> in which R is hydrogen, hydroxyl, halogen, nitro, amino or alkoxy, R1 is a straight or branched alkyl radical having at least 2 carbon atoms, or a cycloalkyl, aralkyl, arylcycloalkyl-alkyl, or hydroxy-alkyl radical, and R2 is hydrogen, or a straight or branched alkyl radical or a hydroxyalkyl radical, or the grouping -NR1R2 represents a heterocyclic ring, which exist in the form of the separated cis- and trans-isomers as well as the cis-trans mixture, are prepared by reacting a 2-phenyl-cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid chloride or bromide or a methyl or ethyl ester of a 2-phenyl-cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid with an amine of formula HNR1R2. Cis - 2 - phenylcyclopropane - 1 - carbonyl chloride is prepared by treating cis-2-phenyl-cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid with thionyl chloride. Therapeutic compositions having antispasmodic activity, and/or activity as central nervous system depressants, which may be administered orally, subcutaneously or intravenously, contain as active ingredient, compounds of Formula I above.
