A pharmaceutical preparation for the treatment of vascular, particularly cardiovascular, diseases comprises an oil extracted from the seeds of Oenothera biennis L. (evening primrose), g -linolenic acid itself or a functional derivative thereof (e.g. a glyceride, methyl or ethyl ester) and an acceptable pharmaceutical vehicle therefor. The oil extract contains the triglyceride of g -linolenic acid and g -linolenic acid itself and also the methyl ester of linoleic acid. The preparations are in the form of dosage units and administration may be orally (e.g. tablets, coated tablets, capsules, cachets, powders, granules, syrup or elixir) or parenterally (e.g. sterile liquid solution, suspension or emulsion). |
